I designed this class to be super cozy, relaxing, and cute! Enjoy getting your hands (lightly) dirty in clay while sipping some tea or coffee and creating the perfect little snack plate with your own two hands! Bring a friend or significant other along and it'll be the most adorable date where you can pick on them for how quirky their plate looks. Or, consider bringing a couple small flowers from a past event that you'd love to immortalize in clay forever! All of the botanicals used in this workshop will be especially chosen from the beautiful selections at Flor Del Soul, and you'll be able to sort out and choose which ones resonate with you the most for your plate.

I will guide you through all of the steps on how to shape, roll, tidy up, and paint your creation, then, I'll set you loose to let your creativity shine through on your own (with my advice of course). At the very end of class I'll momentarily take the pieces back to the studio with me where I will glaze and fire them so they're completely food safe and ready to be a part of your home forever <3

Within 2 weeks time your pieces will be ready for pickup at Flor Del Soul located in La Cosecha! If you're from out of town/state, shipping can also be worked out on the day of the workshop for a separate $10 shipping fee if that's the best option for you.

FAQ:

Q: Will I contact you when the pieces are dropped back off at Flor Del Soul?

A: Yes of course! You should expect an email from me (posey.ceramics@gmail.com) about 2 weeks after class! I'll have them all wrapped up and ready to go when you come to pick them up.

Q: What happens if I don't send my plate with you, and instead take it home the day of?

A: Although I won't stop you if you want to take it home, it's worth knowing that before it's fired, clay is soluble in water, and incredibly brittle once dried. Likewise, the plate will not be food safe since you'd essentially be eating off of dried mud haha. Therefore, taking the plate with me is crucial for it to be completely finished and ready to stand the test of time.

When I take the clay with me back to the studio after class, the plate will be put into a specially machine called a kiln where it'll heat the plates over 2000 degrees F. All that heat melts the clay into more of a durable, glass-like state where it is no longer able to be dissolved in water, and it's pores are tight enough to where it doesn't store bacteria after multiple uses. The reason why this process takes around 2 weeks is because it has to go through that process twice in total for it to be completely finished.

Q: "How should I dress for this class?"

A: Compared to other clay activities, this one is far less messy. You can expect to get some clay or glaze on your hands during class, but it washes out super easy. Likewise, if you make a total mess somehow on your clothes, it typically doesn't stain at all and easily comes out in the washer.

*PSA: if you have super long nails, this class could be difficult for you! Try lining up this class between sets or clip your nails ahead of time. It's totally not impossible to do with nails, you may just find that there's gonna be a ton of nail gouges in your plate for your final product <3
