Hello! My name is Emma Posey, and I am an Appalachian artist from West Virginia.

With each piece that I create, I hope to achieve sculpting the feeling of joy, and to pass that feeling of comfort onto my viewers.

I want to create a world where meaningful, therapeutic art doesn't have to make your viewers feel the same trauma, but for them to connect with it in a lighthearted way, and in turn, help you accept it in that way too.

I am currently working as a ceramic tech and instructor in the DC/Maryland area all whilst pursuing my own artistic career in conjunction with the Dreamers Collective!

Artist Statement

These sculptures to me are a form of healing. While at their core, they represent the parts of me that I tend to reject; Outwardly, they’re light-hearted and goofy all around. I wanted to explore art as a therapeutic medium, but to use it as more of a celebration of my insecurities, and an inspiration to accept them, rather than a reminder of why they hold me back in the first place.

Each piece that I create is a role model for me. They wear my baggage on their sleeves with confidence, and have a friendly, humorous air about them. Likewise, they sport bright colors that draw attention, something that I personally still shy from. I want them to feel almost childlike in nature with the way they are free-spirited and curious little beings, and to appeal to that side in all of us that just wants to live carelessly once again.

As for my viewers, I hope that my sculptures serve as a safe space for them to laugh out loud, and to feel a sense of belonging and comradery when in their presence.
